Chair – Doug Brock
Earlier this year, it was promoted in this committee’s report that an educated membership strengthens our union and its cause.
Our Local supports the development of its members by making available financial assistance to attend labour-related seminars, conferences and courses. With scholarships offered by CUPE National and CUPE BC, the opportunity exists to broaden our knowledge on topics related to workplace issues, negotiations, leadership and communication. These courses develop the individual and benefit not only our Local, but our organization as a whole.
The next major event on the education calendar is the CUPE BC Parkville Weeklong School (23-28 Oct 2005). You are encouraged to visit our website (listed on the employee portal) for a link to the course offerings available. Along with CUPE 1767 financial assistance of $500 are CUPE BC scholarships of up to $1,000 to attend. Additionally, travel subsidy support is available from CUPE BC. Deadline for submissions for CUPE 1767 and CUPE BC financial support is 30 Sep 2005. Registration deadline for the Parksville Weeklong School is 11 Oct 2005.
