Education
Planning for the Pre-AGM education day is coming along well. This Education day promises again to provide members with useful tools they can bring back to their offices as well as the opportunity to learn more about a number of broader topics.
This year, Kevin Millsip will be speaking on the important role of social activism both within and outside of union roles. Kevin is the co-founder and Director of Next Up, a national leadership program for young social change leaders. He is also the sustainability coordinator for the Vancouver School Board where he focuses on sustainable food systems. Kevin serves on several boards and advisory bodies for groups including: The David Suzuki Foundation, The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, The Centre for Civic Governance, Theatre for living, The Small Change Fund, UBC, The City of Vancouver and SUCCESS. We look forward to hearing Kevin Speak this year!
Unfortunately, I must pass along the Education Committee Chair position for the remainder of this summer as I will be taking leave from my role as a Regional Director to accept a temporary position with CUPE National. In my absence, the education committee will be planning the education day this year. I look forward to seeing what they will organize this year!
