A new plan rule for members moving between most public safety roles and general public
service roles ensures that public safety employees. This includes BC Ambulance Service
paramedics in CUPE 873 remain eligible for the early retirement reductions earned while in
those roles even if they move to a general public service role before retirement.
The major news affecting our local regarding the Public Service Pension Plan is the upcoming election for PSPP trustee to a 3 year term. I decided I would run for this position about a year ago and have been actively seeking support from various sources. Our local’s Acting President Jared Melvin has sent a letter of endorsation on behalf our local to the PSPP advisory committee. CUPE National President Paul Moist and Secretary Treasurer Charles Fleury have sent a letter of support also backing my candidacy. I feel that my experience sitting on the PSPP Advisory Committee, my appraisal work at BC Assessment and my university education would be a valuable service to the Board of Trustees.
I have directly reached out to PSPP voting delegates from other CUPE locals, BC Ferries
and BC Nurses for additional consideration. I have received some positive feedback and
encouragement from such sources. The vote will take place on November 13, 2014. Soon I will post to our Facebook page my bio and ask my fellow members to support my campaign.
